Teen Drivers in 2025 – New Safeguards & Parental Monitoring Tools

Introduction:

Teen driver safety is a priority in 2025, with new rules and digital tools aimed at protecting young drivers. Canadian provinces have added parental oversight features and revised the learning environment for G1/G2 license holders under 18.

Key Points:

  1. Mandatory Parental Consent for Under-18 Drivers:
Teens must now submit parental consent forms both digitally and in-person. Platforms like licenseprep.ca now feature downloadable consent templates and verification walkthroughs.

  2. Parental Dashboard Access:
Parents and guardians can now monitor their teen’s driving logs, test readiness, and behaviour reports via secure portals linked to test centers and licenseprep.ca.

  3. Mandatory Night & Weather Training Logs:
G1 holders under 18 are now required to log at least 5 hours of night-time driving and 3 hours of poor weather conditions before taking the road test.

  4. Expanded Distracted Driving Education:
New modules focused on phone use, social distractions, and in-car passenger management are now required. These lessons are included in both classroom and online training formats.

  5. Graduated Curfew Restrictions:
Some provinces now restrict new teen drivers from driving past 10 PM without an experienced co-driver for the first 6 months after getting their G2.
